The first of two home video DVDs of the PlayStation Portable (PSP) game "Valkyria Chronicles 3" is due for release on June 29.

"Senjo no Valkyria: Ta ga Tame no Juso" (Valkyria Chronicles: For whom the gunshot wounds were made) is based on Sega Corp. title released Jan. 27 for the Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE)'s PSP game console.

The new anime episodes expand the video game world with exciting new episodes.

A 26-episode animated TV series, "Valkyria Chronicles," was produced in 2009 based on the game's first version. The new anime features an entirely new cast of characters and background story.

"Senjo no Valkyria" was directed by veteran Nobuhiro Kondo. Screenwriter Hiroshi Onogi wrote the script, with Kazuko Tadano serving as character designer. Composer Hitoshi Sakimoto provided the soundtrack.

A-1 Pictures Inc. was the producer along with anime studio Bridge.

The first episode of the two-part anime will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on June 29, it was announced March 10.

Two limited editions are planned: a "Black Package" and a "Blue Package." They both feature the same episode, but have different voice cast members in additional audio commentaries. They also come with different bonus items.

The "Black Package" and "Blue Package" Blu-ray editions are each priced at 6,090 yen ($77), including tax, and the DVD versions at 5,040 yen.

A regular DVD edition, minus the bonuses, will cost 3,990 yen, including tax.

In addition, the anime will be available through the online PlayStation Store, as well as "Video On Demand powered by Qriocity," from April 13.

The PlayStation Store is SCE's content streaming service for Sony's game consoles.

Qriocity is an online video distribution service also available on Sony Corp.'s Internet-linked televisions. The new "Valkyria Chronicles" anime will be one of the highlights of the new streaming service.

The title can be rented in High Definition (HD) for 500 yen, including tax, as well as in Standard Definition (SD) for 400 yen, through both services.
