Coca-Cola Co. will donate 2.5 billion yen to support relief activities and rebuilding efforts in the quake- and tsunami-ravaged coastal areas of the Tohoku and Kanto regions.
The world's largest beverage firm said Thursday the money would be used to rebuild damaged public facilities such as schools via the to-be-established Coca-Cola Japan Reconstruction Fund.
The 2.5 billion yen donation includes 600 million yen in cash and beverages pledged previously.
Coca-Cola Co. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Muhtar Kent, who recently visited Tokyo, said: "We've been deeply moved by what we've seen and heard, and impressed by the hard work and tenacity of those involved in the relief efforts...We want to do everything we can to contribute to the rebuilding effort."
