TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The British Embassy in Japan said Thursday it no longer advises its nationals against travel to Tokyo in light of the continued efforts to control radiation leaks at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant crippled by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
The British government continues to advise avoiding non-essential travel to areas northeast of Tokyo affected by the quake, including the 80-kilometer radius of the plant some 220 kilometers from Tokyo.
"Although the situation at Fukushima will remain of concern for some time, the risks are gradually declining as the reactors cool and as facilities to stabilize them are established," the embassy said in the travel advisory posted on its web site.
Among other countries, Denmark has also excluded Tokyo from areas it advises its nationals not to visit.
