Laos has vowed to be drug free by 2015. But the Somsanga ‘treatment centre’ offers a glimpse into a world of abuse, beatings and suicide.

Today’s Laos has a communist government that institutes free market reforms and advertises itself as a haven for backpacking tourists. It recently opened its own stock market. For many Americans, especially, Laos still evokes images of the ‘secret war’ fought on the sidelines of the Vietnam war. But even those familiar with modern Laos may not know much about another secret war, this time on the sidelines of the international war on drugs. In a strange realignment of forces, the United States is very much involved, this time on the same side as the government party it once fought against.

Cái gì đã xảy ra vậy?

INFO LE FIGARO - Le rappel des patients ayant consommé du Mediator par les autorités sanitaires a coûté 9,674 millions d'euros à la sécurité sociale.

Le 15 novembre dernier, l'Afssaps (agence française de sécurité sanitaire des produits de santé) faisait des recommandations aux patients ayant pris duMediator pour qu'ils aillent consulter un médecin en vue de déceler une éventuelle pathologie cardiaque. Le 13 décembre, 353 000 personnes ayant consommé ce médicament recevaient un courrier les invitant à faire une échographie du coeur. Ce sont 137 000 patients, soit un peu plus d'un tiers de ceux qui ont reçu le courrier, qui ont subi cet examen.
La Caisse nationale d'assurance maladie, partie civile dans la procédure actuellement en cours à Paris a fait chauffer sa calculatrice. Résultat : un surcoût de 9,674 millions d'euros. «Les coûts correspondent à la période débutant le 15 novembre 2010 et se terminant le 31 mai 2011. Le surcoût est estimé en faisant la différence entre ce coût et le coût observé sur la même période un an auparavant», estime la Cnam.
