Kaoru Kikuchi is our new cover model of the month. If you ask Kaoru where she comes from, she will of course tell you she is Japanese, but in reality she is a real 360° cosmopolitan person. Kaoru can call Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei home. And she is not just a very beautiful model, she is a TV and internet producer and… an architect. "I hate to work" she told us while shooting this cover model feature "I only do things that I am passionate about, so my personal and professional ambitions are always together. My ambition is to brand myself as an international female entrepreneur".

And an entrepreneur she is. Kaoru currently has her own pearl and lingerie line called KOZO, which she has been wearing in this cover model shoot, as well as her Mandarin language learning project called SexyMandarin which has been so scandulous that it got 260,000 views on youtube in the last 2 months and on Taiwan TV… and that's not all… she runs an Ostrich farm in Palawan with 150 ostriches right now… curious to know more about our new cover model Kaoru? How did you start working as a DJ?
I started to burn free CD's for my friends few years ago, then everyone told me "you have a cool music selection why don't you just try to mix it?" First time I touched a mixer, both songs came together with the same beat and slowly adjusted the button up... then BANG! I felt like I just opened my third eye :)

The Twittersphere response was swift and negative, with users taking particular offense to the "don't eat" hashtag. Many tweeted such comments as "disgusted," "lost respect," "stupid," and "so wrong" in regards to the remark.

Some fans were even more blunt: "You just blatantly endorsed anorexia to over 22 million followers," read one tweet.

Even the National Eating Disorders Association weighed in,tweeting "Huh? This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting?"

The 26-year-old superstar admitted to Vanity Fair in 2010 that she herself battled bulimia, citing an incident in which she forced herself to throw up a meal of fried chicken before a meeting with a record-label executive.

Anh Nguyễn Văn An (lập trình viên máy tính của công ty phần mềm CNC, Hà Nội) có kể lại việc làm gây bất bình của chủ quán họ “vô học”. Anh bức xúc “chúng hành xử với thượng đế như là bọn du côn, bất cần đời ấy”. Sự việc bắt đầu từ cô gái người Sài Gòn ra Hà Nội công tác khi rẽ vào một quán bún chả ven hồ Trúc Bạch ăn khi tính tiền thì cô này bị “lấy đắt gấp đôi” vì trót để lộ mình là người Sài Gòn.

 Khi cô gái thắc mắc về giá cả đắt thì được chủ hàng phán “ngồi ăn chỉ biết ăn đứng lên là phải tính tiền có gì phải thắc mắc nhiều”. Bất bình quá, anh An lao ra vạch mặt việc bắt chẹt khách Sài Gòn thì bị chủ quán quát đến hãi “thằng nhãi này, mày muốn gì hả định làm anh hùng rơm chắc”, “còn không mau cuốn xéo đi”.

Vì cũng nóng tính nên máu liều của anh nổi lên, hai bên đôi co dữ dội với nhau. Đến khi hỗn loạn, ông chủ quán này đã cầm dao ra dọa “mày còn muốn sống không?”. Bó tay với kiểu làm ăn này, anh An “sợ chừa đến già” với kiểu chủ quán bún chửi du côn này.

Trong ngành giặt quần áo, có hai phương thức chính : Giặt ‘nước’ thông thường và giặt ‘khô’, còn được gọi hấp, dùng để giặt đồ bằng len hay bằng nỉ. Thế nhưng mới đây, hai hiệp hội bảo vệ môi trường Pháp đã lên tiếng báo động, cho biết là chất perchloroéthylène, dung môi dùng rất nhiều trong máy giặt ‘khô', lại là một hóa chất rất nguy hiểm, có thể gây nên ung thư chết người.

Dựa theo một số công trình nghiên cứu khoa học, Mạng lưới Y tế - Môi trường (Réseau santé environnement) và hội Các Thế hệ Tương lai (Générations futures) đã nêu bật tác hại của perchloroéthylène, một chất tẩy rất mạnh được máy phun vào quần áo để làm sạch.
Trong một bản thông cáo báo chí công bố hôm 17/02/2012, hai hiệp hội xác đinh là chất tẩy này rất độc hại cho những người tiếp cận với nó, từ các nhân viên làm việc cho các cơ sở giặt mà cho cả cư dân sống chung quanh.

Từ 10 -18/04/2012, nhà hát Châtelet tại Paris cho diễn vở nhạc kịch opéra "Nixon ở Trung Quốc – Nixon in China", của nhà soạn nhạc Mỹ John Adams, do đạo diễn Mỹ Peter Sellars đưa lên sân khấu lần đầu tiên tại Hoa Kỳ vào năm 1987.Nhưng vở diễn lần này do một đạo diễn người Trung Quốc dàn dựng.

An auction of instruments of torture due to take place in Paris on Tuesday has been cancelled after protests from France’s culture minister and human rights campaigners.

The planned sale was organised on behalf of the descendants of a former French public executioner, Fernand Meyssonnier, who died in 2008 at the age of 77.
As well as carrying out 198 executions in Algeria between 1957 and 1962, Meyssonnier amassed a comprehensive collection of 350 tools of torture and documents relating to punishment down the ages.

A brother and sister from Germany who had an incestuous relationship, arguing they had the right to a family life, have lost their European court case.

Patrick Stuebing and Susan Karolewski had four children together, two of whom are described as disabled.

The European Court of Human Rights said Germany was entitled to ban incest.

Stuebing, who was convicted of incest and spent three years in prison, did not meet his natural sister until he tracked down his family as an adult.

He had been adopted as a child and only made contact with his natural relatives in his 20s.

The siblings grew close after their mother died.

Three of their four children are now looked after in care.

The couple insist that their love is no different to any other.

Jodie Foster has said she had "no regrets" about casting troubled actor Mel Gibson as the lead in her latest film, The Beaver.

London (CNN) -- London's Metropolitan Police was under fire Friday after 10 cases involving alleged racism by police officers were referred to the independent police watchdog for investigation.

Eight officers and a staff member have been suspended while allegations that they used racist language are reviewed, the Metropolitan Police said.

The 10 cases involve about 20 police officers and one staff member, a police spokesman said.

Deputy Commissioner Craig Mackey said Thursday that the force, known as the Met, was taking the matter very seriously.

WHY are boys behaving more “like girls” in terms of when they lose their virginity? In contrast to longstanding cultural tropes, there is reason to believe that teenage boys are becoming more careful and more romantic about their first sexual experiences.

For a long time, a familiar cultural lexicon has been in vogue: young women who admitted to voluntary sexual experience risked being labeled “sluts” while male peers who boasted of sexual conquests were celebrated as “studs.”

No wonder American teenage boys have long reported earlier and more sexual experience than have teenage girls. In 1988, many more boys than girls, ages 15 to 17, told researchers that they had had heterosexual intercourse.

We see these misgivings in the book of Genesis, when God decides to kill nearly all of humanity in a great flood because of our evil proclivities. At an emergency meeting on Friday, the college’s board of trustees voted to indefinitely postpone implementation of the two-tiered payment system, which would have offered 50 of the courses in the highest demand for $180 per credit hour, in addition to the 700 courses the college already offers for $36.

Speaking to the board and the assembled students and faculty members, the college president, Chui L. Tsang, recommended that the board postpone the payment plan after hearing the objections of so many students.

“Based on these concerns of our college community,” he said, “I feel we need to pause, and take a broader look, and take more time for dialogue.”

The two-tiered payment system, which had been set to begin as a pilot program this summer, was designed to help address the difficulty of getting into some of the most popular classes, amid state budget cuts that have forced the college to trim more than 1,000 course offerings in recent years. The higher price of the classes, administrators said, would cover only the cost to the college of offering them.

Những ngày qua chúng ta đã được chứng kiến nhiều bài báo bàn về “trí thức là gì”. Nhiều bài trong số này rất tâm huyết và có chất lượng cao, mang tiếng gọi về trách nhiệm và sự đóng góp xã hội.

Không bàn về các nội dung của câu chuyện “trí thức là gì”, ở đây tôi muốn nhận dạng về phương pháp, phương thức tiếp cận vấn đề.

Phương pháp duy-lý tưởng

Phương pháp duy-lý tưởng là một cách thức tư duy phổ biến từ ngàn xưa về nhận thức xã hội cùng con người. Đây là một lựa chọn. Và nó vẫn có giá trị trong những phóng tưởng trực giác, gợi mở.

Lưu ý là ở xứ Việt người ta cũng dùng cả chữ “phương pháp duy tâm” cho trường hợp này. Tôi muốn dùng chữ “phương pháp duy-lý tưởng” vì nó rõ nghĩa hơn, và tránh bị rơi vào cái bẫy việt vị của thói quen vội quy kết ý thức hệ.

Luôn xuất hiện trẻ trung và lộng lẫy trên thảm đỏ và trong các bộ phim như bất cứ cô gái tuổi 20 nào, nhưng ngôi sao 43 tuổi thừa nhận, sự xuất hiện của những lứa diễn viên trẻ khiến cô nhận ra mình đã già.

Trong bài phỏng vấn mới nhất trên tạp chí InStyle số tháng 5, nữ diễn viên xinh đẹp nói: “Bạn có biết điều gì khiến tôi cảm thấy mình đã già không? Khi tôi nhìn thấy một cô gái 20 tuổi, hoặc khi nhìn những lứa diễn viên trẻ, tôi nghĩ: 'Mình với họ không cùng lứa'. Hoặc khi được mời đóng vai bà mẹ của một cô gái 17 tuổi. Ban đầu tôi nói: "Tôi chưa đủ tuổi để có một đứa con lớn như thế". Nhưng sau đó, tôi nhận ra, mình quả thực đã già thật rồi".
