Iran launches new military exercises after threat to close strategic Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran began ground military exercises Saturday and defiantly warned that it could cut off oil exports to “hostile” European nations as tensions rise over suggestions that military strikes are an increasing possibility if sanctions fail to rein in the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

Tehran has stepped up its rhetoric as international pressure mounts over allegations that it is seeking to develop atomic weapons, a charge it denies.

Ngày 9/5, hơn 20.000 binh sỹ Ấn Độ đã bắt đầu cuộc tập trận dọc biên giới với Pakistan. Cuộc tập trận kéo dài 6 ngày với mật danh "Vijayeee Bhava" (Chiến thắng).

Phát biểu với báo giới tại thành phố Jodhpur, người phát ngôn quân đội Ấn Độ S.D. Goswami cho biết cuộc tập trận diễn ra tại sa mạc Thar thuộc bang Rajasthan ở miền Bắc Ấn Độ.

Đây là cuộc diễn tập cơ giới hóa quy mô lớn với sự tham gia của nhiều loại vũ khí cần cho chương trình hiện đại hóa quân đội mà Ấn Độ đang triển khai.

Đây là cuộc tập trận quy mô lớn lần thứ 10 do Ấn Độ tiến hành ở khu vực dọc biên giới với Pakistan trong 6 năm qua.

Cuộc tập trận diễn ra trong bối cảnh giới chức lãnh đạo Pakistan đang chịu "sức ép kép" liên quan đến chiến dịch tiêu diệt trùm khủng bố quốc tế Osama bin Laden do Mỹ tiến hành hôm 1/5.

Trong khi cộng đồng quốc tế cho rằng Islamabad "đồng lõa, chứa chấp" bin Laden trong lãnh thổ của mình, thì phe đối lập và dư luận trong nước lại gây sức ép với chính phủ về việc để lính đặc nhiệm Mỹ thực hiện chiến dịch ngay trên lãnh thổ của mình mà không hay biết./.
